We have been engaged by our client Little Company of Mary – Calvary Mater – Newcastle to assist in the search and selection of a Director of Palliative Care Services - Calvary Mater Newcastle Area Director, Palliative Care Services, Hunter New England Health – New South Wales.
Within the framework of the mission, vision, values, philosophy and policies of the Sisters of the Little Company of Mary, the Area Director of Palliative Care is responsible for the provision of leadership and direction to palliative care services across Hunter New England Health.
The position is responsible for ensuring that strategic, operational, planning and clinical governance requirements are met and that palliative care service delivery is safe, effective and appropriate.
The Area Director will provide recognised medical expertise at consultant level for the specialty of palliative care and will oversee the teaching and training of medical students, graduates and other healthcare professionals and provide leadership in research, evaluation and quality improvement. The Director is responsible for the provision of a high performing, safe and effective departmental service in collaboration with the Assistant Director of Clinical Services (Nursing) and the Nursing Unit Manager. This team will provide leadership for the specialty.
The Director is also responsible for implementing change within the palliative care team to achieve outcomes agreed with the Director of Clinical Services (Medical) and the Assistant Director of Clinical Services (Nursing).
Essential Criteria sort for consideration for this position:
- Primary Medical Degree registrable with the NSW Medical Registration Board.
- Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (accredited by the Specialist Advisory Committee in Palliative Care) or Fellowship of the Australasian Chapter of Palliative Medicine or equivalent recognised by the CMN.
- Demonstrated capacity in the efficient and effective day to day management of a teaching hospital Palliative Care Department/Service.
- Demonstrated capability to negotiate and implement change.
- Commitment to undergraduate and post graduate teaching.
- Demonstrated communication, organisational and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated strong leadership and negotiation skills with proven consultative management style.
- Commitment to and demonstrated ability to work effectively as a member of a multidisciplinary team.
- Commitment to quality management and the proven capacity to initiate foster and monitor an environment of continuous improvement.
- Experience in the management of palliative care patients as a consultant, in the community or inpatient setting.
- Demonstrated computer literacy.
- Ability to work unsupervised.
- Able to work proficiently in periods of high demand and activity.
- Demonstrated commitment to own personal and professional development.
- Commitment to the philosophy, mission and values of Little Company of Mary Health Care as it applies to the Hospital and the ability and desire to uphold these principles.
Excellent remuneration in accordance with the Salaried Senior Medical Practitioners (State) Award and Senior Salaried Medical Practitioners Determination (State) Award.
