Bass Coast Shire, a ninety minute drive from Melbourne’s CBD, boasts many beautiful beaches and unique nature reserves.
The Shire attracts 3.4 million visitors each year, including 35% of Melbourne’s international visitors and during peak holiday periods, Bass Coast’s population exceeds 70,000. The major townships of the Shire are Wonthaggi, Inverloch, Grantville and Cowes on Phillip Island which attracts many visitors with its world famous events such as the Moto Grand Prix.
With the imminent State and Federal Government policy changes in aged, family and children’s services and aim of building on the strong foundations already established throughout the municipality, Council seeks a community focused and performance driven senior executive. You will be a key player in shaping future policy, strategies and service delivery in response to these changes and Council’s commitments in education, health and well-being planning and advocacy.
Reporting to the Director, you will play a leading role in planning, developing, supporting and managing the provision of a broad range of community focused services and infrastructure relevant to the needs of the Shire’s residents. You will be a strategic thinker with strong interpersonal and leadership skills that motivate others to find solutions and pursue opportunities to improve service delivery. An extensive knowledge and understanding of government policy directions and funding options, legislation and guidelines is vital, as is demonstrated experience in the management of multi-skilled teams.
A genuine commitment and sensitivity to the specific needs of the community is essential, as is the ability to be an advocate for Council through building positive relationships within the sector in an energetic, flexible and practical manner. The facilitation and delivery of integrated community infrastructure, in conjunction with other external and internal stakeholders, is also a key measure of success.
Relevant tertiary qualifications in social sciences, community development, social planning, public health or a related field will be highly regarded. An attractive salary package is on offer and will be negotiated to attract candidates of the highest calibre.
