Senior Officer Grade 1, Goulburn Street, Sydney, Permanent Full-Time
Lead the Hazardous Materials and Radiation Section within Specialised Regulation Branch to ensure the Department of Environment and Climate Change has regulatory and policy programs and tools, skills and operational preparedness in relation to hazardous materials, dangerous goods and radiation to fulfil its statutory and agency responsibilities.
Remuneration Package to: $146,562. Package includes salary ($123,260-$132,816), employer’s contribution to superannuation and annual leave loading.

Selection Criteria: - Sound judgement and demonstrated record in effective leadership and change management in a highly technical area.
- High level analytical, strategic thinking and complex problem solving skills and high level experience in policy development, regulatory review and implementation.
- Demonstrated superior written and verbal communication and extensive experience in effective negotiation, liaison and conflict resolution with the demonstrated ability to maintain constructive relationships with stakeholders.
- Knowledge of environmental protection legislation and framework for incident and emergency management.
- Solid understanding of working of government at a commonwealth, state and local level.
- Extensive experience in the management of radiation and/or environmentally hazardous chemicals.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the properties of dangerous goods and hazardous materials and/or radioactive substances and understanding of their potential impact on the environment.
- Degree relevant to the requirements of the position (such as Science).
